The Department of Development is the core developer to inculcate the culture of excellence among members of the society by providing fundamental facilities such as proper and ideal infrastructure as well as efficient and systematic maintenance system.
The department exists in line with the existence of Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering (Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia),KUKUM in May 2002, as The Building Maintenance Unit and located in the Kubang Gajah momentary campus. In January 2003, the unit was upgraded to The Department of Development headed by the Deputy Director of Development (J48).At that time there were about 4 technical staffs and 10 administrative staffs.
In April 2003, the department was transferred from the momentary campus in Kubang Gajah to a new office at No. 40 & 42, 1st Floor, Jalan Bukit Lagi, Kangar, Perlis. The Department remains until today after the rebranding of the university to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
In May 2003, the department received a Development Director from among the academic staff (DS53). To date, the department has 78 staffs of 10 professional staffs from the management team, 9 staffs from support group (I) and 57 staffs from support group (II).
With the establishment of this department, it will help ensure that the infrastructure provided are substantial and convenience for the citizens of UniMAP.
